Rei Nintone (にんとねれいち; Nintone Rei) is a voicebank designed for UTAU, described as having a sweet, mature voice.

History[]

Rei Nintone was released on October 4, 2011 as a CV voicebank under the name "Reicheru Hoshikone". She later received a 2.0 CV update and a VCV 1.0 voicebank. At this point, she was renamed as "Reicheru Nintone". For these voicebanks, she was voiced by Kirrin.

In late 2018, Rei received a brand new voicebank known as "Reicheru Nintone Switch". This voicebank was confirmed to be voiced by Galactix, the manager and creator of Rei herself. This was the first time Galactix voiced an UTAU and future voicebanks for Rei sample from her. As of 2021, she has been renamed once again to "Rei Nintone", along with a new design. This name will follow appropriately with her other voicebanks, such as ULTIMATE, ODYSSEY, etc.

On September 5, 2019, a teaser for her updated design was revealed along with the announcement of her newest voicebank: Ultimate.^[1] On October 5, 2019, it was announced that Rei would be receiving an English voicebank. This is expected to release later that year in the winter season.^[2] She would then be released on January 15, 2021, approximately two and a half months later. Rei's Heartgold bank would also later be released on April 20, 2024, coincidentally the 18th anniversary of Mother 3. On May 7th, 2024, Rei received a new design, now adorned with overalls and a bright yellow bow - a more athletic look.

Concept[]

Rei Nintone's character, relationships, personality, and story are subject to the creator and are not limited. So long as it follows her Terms of Service, interpret her as you see fit.^[3]

According to the official website, Rei Nintone was designed to reflect Galactix's love for video games (especially Nintendo). Rei is normally a bright and outgoing individual who tends to think more with her heart rather than her head. Though she can come off as reckless and stubbornly headstrong at times, she is a good friend, and is kind to a fault.^[4]

In the read.me of her Switch voicebank, it was noted that during tough times, Rei turns to playing video games to feel better.

In 2019, her profile was updated. It was noted that she is optimistic and enjoys relaxing on rainy days. Her most prominent trait is her easygoing and bright demeanor. She has a very strong passion for Nintendo and has a wide array of merchandise and knowledge of the franchise. This is what had inspired her to sing in the first place.

She had special powers that were based on Nintendo's "EarthBound", but unlike the protagonists, she used them for more mundane tasks. This ranged from flying rather than walking, picking up faraway objects, or using her powers for visual appeal. Her hair also had the ability to respond to her emotions. Under high stress, it could glow and float.^[5] In addition, depending on her state and environment, her psychic abilities would change her physical state.

These two concepts were later scrapped, and instead replaced with abilities of flight, and super strength to better match her android aesthetic.

The irises of her eyes can change shape.^[6]

Etymology[]

れい - Rei; No particular meaning other than a shortened remnant of her previous name.
にんとね - Nintone; A pun on Nintendo.

Appearance[]

Hair color - Short dark ocean blue hair. Older concepts featured her with pigtails and an ahoge. The pigtails are now considered to be her hair extensions.^[7]
Headgear - A yellow headband with a bow at the right side's end. The bow is shaped like a D-pad. Older designs featured her with a white bow.
Eye color - Yellow with a D-pad shaped iris. Irises can change shape.
Outfit - Rei wears a seafoam blue set of overalls, accented with a dark blue. Older designs feature her with a strapped dress with a heavily layered cream colored petticoat. She has a puffy, white sleeved undershirt. On the chest area, a small logo matching closely to Nintendo's logo labeled "Nintone" lays just underneath the hem. On her stomach are two dark cyan colored buttons labeled A and B, with a yellow D-pad on the left side. Her back is adorned with a large yellow bow shaped as a D-pad button. She wears cream colored silk thigh high socks, of which are adorned with two cylindrical, semi-transparent buttons. She wears yellow athletic shoes. On her hands are dark cyan fingerless with openings for the back of her palms. The button pattern on her dress follows the design of a Gameboy Color.

Galactix later opened a REDBUBBLE shop with official stickers of Rei. A dress based on Rei's was also made available.^[9]

Trivia^[10][]

Rei has the ability to fly via Electromagnetic Propulsion. Due to excessive battery usage however, she tends to use it sparingly.
As an android, she does not need to eat. However, she really likes to!
Her dual processors are specially made to act as the mind and heart of a human. They are hardwired into her system, and she is unable to function without them. Ironically, they are placed in both Rei's head, and chest.
Being bult with military-grade material, not only is she extremely agile, but she's also quite strong! Her durability allows her to be able to pick up heavy objects such as cars, for example.
