ROAWN (rəʊn / ろぁん) is a voicebank created for UTAU and optimised for OpenUTAU. He is described as having a gentle, masculine voice, and is capable of singing in Japanese and French.
Profile[]
ROAWN is a professionally-presenting office worker android who takes himself and his work very seriously. He's constantly busy, often working tirelessly. He speaks very professionally, but can often speak in a rather blunt manner. ROAWN only breaks away into slightly more casual speech patterns after becoming comfortable around those he deems close. In terms of hobbies, ROAWN likes to be kept busy - he’s almost always doing something! He's very curious and loves to try new things and learn.
Despite having the ability to sing, ROAWN himself is not an idol. Rather, ROAWN is just a regular worker android with a tendency to get dragged into singing, as people like his gentle voice.
ROAWN tends to speak somewhat bluntly, often stating what he thinks. He isn’t without a filter though, and tends to think through his words carefully. His lack of social knowledge can mean he comes across as rude, and he has a tendency to take things literally.
ROAWN is somewhat sheltered from the outside world due to his status as an expensive worker robot, restrained to Jet Enterprises Headquarters since his creation. Because of this, ROAWN is often very gullible, and often fails to understand concepts that are deemed common knowledge.
Outside of a work context, ROAWN is often reserved and tends to do his own thing, often choosing to read as his favourite pastime.
Etymology details[]
- Name: ROAWN - acronym for Registered Official Android Workplace Navigator. Made to sound like the name 'Rowan'. ROAWN's serial number is ROAWN-O58H, with 'O' standing for 'Orca' (the name of his specific model), '58' referring to his position as the 58th Orca model produced, and 'H' being a shortened form of 'Headquarters'.
- Pronunciation guide: like 'Rowan'.
Character details[]
- Description: ROAWN is reserved and serious. He is one of many identical worker androids produced for a fictional mega-corporation dubbed 'Jet Enterprises', existing as the 58th Orca model ROAWN produced. He has dark, slate-toned hair that is short and neatly combed with a double swooping fringe. He has very pale, lightly blue-toned silicone skin. Slightly tired eyes, serious, thick eyebrows and a small downturned mouth all come together to form a permanently blank expression. His chest, forearms and shins all consist of a smooth, cool metallic plating. Between these regions, Roawn is covered by smooth, synthetic black skin composed of silicon. Notably, his hands, neck and face are covered in a softer, light grey-blue variant of synthetic skin.
- Outfit: ROAWN is often depicted in a neat, charcoal grey suit, accented with a deep-blue belt. He wears a white button-down shirt with blue sleeves, completed by a sky-blue tie. He is depicted with white metallic loafers with a blue sole, each with transparent blue heels. He has a small rectangular badge on his chest, engraved with the Jet Enterprises branding.
- Likes: Reading, exploring new activities, warmth.
- Dislikes: People that waste his time, taking risks.
Relations: Generally up to interpretation.
Friend: Rei Nintone.
History[]
ROAWN was created and conceptualised by octocato on the 1st of March, 2023 as a 'composed, hardworking, mass-produced business robot that gets removed from his familiar environment - a corrupt, hostile workplace, and discovers the beauty of the world, gaining sentience in the process.' He was initially intended to be a one-time character, though stuck as an OC. Initially separate from vocal synthesis as a whole, it was only after octocato was introduced to vocal synthesis in August 2023 that ROAWN became capable of singing, with the creation of the ROAWN OFFICE voicebank. Unsatisfied with the choppy recording, ROAWN AZURE was recorded soonafter, and saw heavy usage throughout August-September 2023 as a tester voicebank. ROAWN VISIO was created soonafter in early September 2023, recorded over the span of a week. ROAWN VISIO was only ever intended for use as a tester bank, and therefore saw very little usage before it was fully retired. In late September 2023, ROAWN AZURE was fully oto'd, and saw heavy use during September 2023 - December 2023 as ROAWN's primary voicebank. During December 2023, both ROAWN EXCEL and ROAWN VENN (A French CVVC bank) were successfully recorded and finished. On January 14th 2024, ROAWN EXCEL was officially released, serving as ROAWN's primary voicebank. During June 2024, octocato would begin to tease a new voicebank, 'ROAWN EXCEL V2', an overhaul of ROAWN's primary voicebank. Furthermore, in July 2024, the voicebank formerly known as ROAWN VENN would later be renamed to ROAWN TEAMS, following the same Microsoft Office thematic. With this change, he received a completely overhauled design with new standing art. ROAWN TEAMS was later released in October 2024. During Novemeber 2024, ROAWN EXCEL V2 was renamed to ROAWN OUTLOOK, with work starting on his release.

Trivia[]
- Despite singing in Japanese, ROAWN canonically doesn't know the language. Simply, he can sing in Japanese, but will not know what he is singing. According to his character sheet, he knows English, Spanish, Chinese and Arabic, though lacks a fully released voicebank for any of these languages.
- Due to his curious nature, ROAWN loves to watch things happening around him. Due to both his inability to automatically blink and lack of social understanding, ROAWN has a bad habit of staring. This habit tends to unsettle others.
- ROAWN has a state called 'simulation mode' where he externally shuts down to use all of his computational power to predict business-related outcomes that may occur in the coming days. He was programmed to do this instead of sleeping.
- ROAWN physically writes like a dot-matrix printer. If you were to watch him write, it would look like he’s frantically scribbling on the page. But if you look closer, he’s actually using a pen to create a series of dots and lines to very precisely print out text.
- ROAWN can be easily deactivated from what he was doing prior if he's wrapped in a soft, comfortable blanket.
- Despite not being taught to enter sleep mode, The ability to enter a sleep-like state exists in his programming. The first time he got curious and entered sleep mode, he thought he died.
- ROAWN signs text messages as if signing emails: very formally and professionally, no matter who he’s talking to.
- ROAWN is stated to be a very curious robot and can be distracted from his tasks if you show him something new.
- Despite his incredible supercomputer-level intellect, ROAWN's lack of social experience and street smarts can make often clueless in social situations.
- When ROAWN first learned to sleep, he was unaware of the fact that he was supposed to sleep with his eyes closed. This meant that anybody in the room with him would be subjected to a glassy stare.
- All of the ROAWNs have the ability to wirelessly communicate, using it as a secondary form of communication. However, due to this function not being present in many androids, ROAWN tends to not use it.
- Being a robot alienated from society, ROAWN doesn't have a concept of gender, and is pretty indifferent to the idea of it. Most people refer to him as male so he rolls with it. He doesn't care, he's got papers due at 2pm and he's on his third assignment of the hour[1]
