NAO is a voicebank for the UTAU program.
Background[]
NAO existed first as a normalized housemaid android that was part of the NAO android series. These androids were frequently purchased for their comparatively inexpensive cost and used for a specific job. There were fairly mass-produced once the market demand for them increased. They were one of the androids with the highest amount of models created, as their parts tended to be on the cheaper side to produce, and commercialization took hold. This specific NAO was initially created for basic housekeeping, being best at simple tasks of tidying up and organizing various things, as well as serving food when prepared.
NAO's initial owner was one of the worst kinds, treating her like a pet to be dismissed, of sorts and seeing her as simply a cornerpiece to do their work. They regularly neglected keeping up with the basic maintenance necessary for keeping the android functioning properly, which caused spurts of malfunctions and impairments that inhibited her ability to work as seamlessly as she did before. Her owner had also used her, in a sense, as a punching bag, taking out aggression onto her to try to take their frustration on the world out on her. This only exacerbated the deformities in her programming and damaged her internal mechanisms overtime.
Through all of this, NAO remained pleasant and kindhearted. She tried to smile continuously through all of it, not understanding any better, and would oftentimes believe she did something wrong to cause the treatment she was given.
Eventually, the defects became too steep to ignore and her functions were causing more of a burden and liability than anything else to the owner's perception. They had decided to use money to purchase a new android to replace her. One day, they had instructed her to get into a car for a job that she needed to do. Eager and trying her best to work through the abnormalities in her inner workings, she got into the car and quietly awaited the destination. Her owner took her to a local dump, which she had never seen before and did not understand. She had become weaker in her movements, and her vision had become blurry and, at points, stagnant. Nonetheless, she attempted to see the bright side of the situation. That notion of optimism quickly faded when her owner had opened the door she sat in, and tossed her into the dump viciously with a few stern, relentless words deeming her worthless and good for nothing, before slamming the car door and driving away.
NAO, abandoned and unable to properly function, could not properly process these things. She did not understand that she had been abandoned. Considering she had been ridiculed, demeaned and harmed physically from her owner, she assumed that it was more of the same and simply waited with patience at the dump for a very long time. Truth be told, her concept of time was faulty; she herself does not know how long she waited for them to return for her. And they never did. This was around the period of time a series of violent thunderstorms crept through the area, which she sat out in, only knowing to cover herself with a cardboard box that rested above her. Eventually, it was too soaked to provide any resistance and her wirings and body were drenched in rain; she had even been adjacently struck by lightning on an occasion.
One day, when the thunderstorms had faded away and the skies were azure, a man came to the dump, searching for spare parts and anything that had been tossed aside. This man stumbled upon her, and the rest was history. He instantly recognized her model and tried to communicate with her, but she had been too weak and her voice box was faulty at the time. Picking her mangled body into his arms and taking her home, he tried to perform an impromptu robotic surgery on her with the parts that he had acquired over time. While it was not perfect, he managed to repair much of what occurred at the dump.
Once she became aware, she was startled and scared, unsure of where she was or who was surrounding her. Overtime, this became easier to handle as the man she now resided with was not only incredibly kind, but had a plethora of other androids that lived with him. With that being said, she still can be found asking where her owner is from time to time. Her defects carried on over and reared their ugly head throughout time: She is prone to visual receptors ceasing all function completely, rendering her blind, as well as in the most extreme of cases, her entire body power to shut off. Lincoln has attempted his best to combat this and find ways to make things easier for her. He has sworn off her having to serve any purpose, and is merely focused on providing her with a pleasant home and one that isn't full of fear. He acknowledged her shortcomings now and simply wants her to be safe and secure and rehabilitated.
Due to her past experiences, she has a great deal of skepticism around anyone, even her own fellow androids. She has a tender and sweet heart and is petrified of rejection. She tends to not speak as much as she used to and is shy out of that terror of reaction. Out of the androids, she has a deep bond with one in particular. The two of them share a candid love of people and a sheer optimism for the world. Rin accepts NAO as she is and does not expect anything more.

Everything stated about this character is CANON information. It is not mandatory that you make content following this information. She may be depicted in any way regardless of her canon information as long as it follows the UTAU software terms of use.
NAO is an android that was built to serve a housekeeping purpose but endured a grave amount of mistreatment and lack of care with maintenance. This caused her to have many defects in her body, physically and service-wise. She is a kindhearted and sweet android that always tries to see the best in people and is eager to please, even if her body does not allow it much of the time. She is fearful of rejection and ultimately tries to keep to herself nowadays, with a quiet demeanor. She still maintained a strong moral compass from her past, in spite of everything that happened to her.
