MERCY is a voicebank for the UTAU program.
Background[]
A genius bored of the world before him, with ambitions far greater than what he could accomplish under the thumb of others decided to embark on his biggest excursion of the mind yet. Any task he had put his mind to, he had excelled at. But he saw flaw in the world: Flaws that outweighed what he could aptly fix; humanity was en route to destroy itself in some capacity, whether through our own selfish hands or the environment itself.
Because of his intelligence, he was routinely reached out to by the highest governmental powers of the world and then some. They wished to utilize his brilliance. He could not help but look at this as him contributing to the issues.
His desire was to create a spaceship that could go distances never before seen. He kept this project an absolute secret from the watchful eye of all those who tried to abuse his power. He worked incessantly on it, with very little rest. What began as a hobby quickly catapulted into a passion, then an obsession. He poured everything into this: This was going to be his last swan song, no matter what occurred. He had ran the calculations to craft a spacecraft like no one had done prior. He likely would have been called a fool. He had to trust his instinct and no other--he had no desire to share this with the world, as he knew if it had gotten into the wrong hands, it would be abysmal.
He was a man of few connections. He was a humble, generous and kindhearted man but did not make friends or acquaintances easily. He mostly kept to himself. As such, and knowing he would not be returning to planet Earth, he took many of his androids into the shuttle with him. And once the time come, complete with a botanical garden and a replenishing supply of food, along with various creations to keep him company, he took off in the dead of night, never to return to the Earth he saw as destined for failure.
His greatest work? It was better than he had ever intended. The speeds and distance he was able to work with was incredible, to say the least. Here he was, in the great vacuum of space, where peace and tranquility reigned in the silence. But among the androids that surrounded him, one was particularly different: Mercy.
Mercy was an android whose emotional cortex had not necessarily malfunctioned, but took on a life of its own. Their core was made up of an apathetic exterior that often gave way to a lackadaisical and drifting demeanor. They would unintentionally get into scuffles verbally (sometimes physically) with the other androids, or act in a way that felt inappropriate or out of line compared to the others. They were by far the most dejected of the bunch. But the one thing that was peculiar and downright perplexing to their creator: Mercy clearly had a longing for Earth; a sense of homesick.
Admittedly, the mechanics that the creator had allowed himself in Space were few and far between. He was ready to put his projects behind him. His full intention was to die in space, surrounding with peace and quiet in the universe that he loved so dearly. Nonetheless, he still took up small projects to keep himself busy. Now, he had one that would require a great deal of precision.
He combined some of the loose light sources to microdisplay liquid crystals that had organic light emitting diodes; something to simulate a VR experience, of sort. Put together with stereoscopy, he attempted to replicate an experience akin to Earth by using pictures that he had of Earth that he had taken with him as reminders. He was not sure how this might translate to an android, though in his own testing, it seemed to be scarily accurate.
He was someone that did not believe in turning these androids on or off, wishing them to be free and perhaps even outlive him. Thus, he had to make some modifications to Mercy to allow them to have the ability to witness this. Transported back home, Mercy was enamored and became so immersed that they regularly preferred to be home in Earth than here.
They had an unparalleled ability of perceiving the world back home and seeing through it all properly. When the creator took note of this, as well as their intelligence that was perceivably the greatest of the androids in spite of the aggression, he put one final bit of his work to the test. One day, when Mercy was up against the pillar pod, back on Earth in a sense, the creator pulled a chair up before them and began to do a very experimental procedure that he had rarely given much mind to on Earth. But he knew that his life would be short, compared to theirs. He never knew if one day, he might not wake up: So he attempted to program his own memories and visualizations into the robotic cerebral cortex and memory core of Mercy, to try to replicate some sort of singularity that would mix with their own visualization to preserve him within them. He did not believe this would work. It was no more than a simple experiment.
But catastrophe struck that same day.
The creator lost control of the spaceship, slipping too dangerously close to the orbit of a planet whose gravitational pull was far too strong to resist. In uncharted territory, the spaceship plummeted. Flying through the sky and into the atmosphere of the planet, Mercy was oblivious to this and entirely unaware, as they were hooked up to the alternate reality of Earth and firmly pressed up against a pillar that allowed them to properly control their body and see through this virtual reality of sorts.
Needless to say, the Survivors were nonexistent when the spaceship crashed into the unknown planet. The creator, along with the creations that littered the spaceship all were turned to rubble and ash, leaving Mercy... alone.
When they returned to their own singular consciousness, not only were they taken aback and utterly shocked, but something was wrong. For one, the cord that allowed them back to Earth was stuck (their creator was always the one to attach and detach it for them), and they were bearing witness to a horrifying display of destruction. They could not process any of this: So a piece of them shattered.
They were dizzy, unable to think or see straight and things were racing like they had never felt before. Like flashes and blips on the radar that would come and go, nothing seemed stable or tangible; the world felt extremely out of reach and they did not believe what they were seeing was real. They had seen many figments in the Earth they would play through, but clearly it was just that: figments. But seeing through the creator's eyes, as well as what they had been shown themselves, led to it being a twisted up labyrinth of memories that played out like realities all the same.
Due to this, Mercy became caught in a continuum of detachment and de-regulation of their surroundings, being looped up in a whirlwind of desaturation and not being able to tell the difference between what is a false reality and what is a correct one. On one hand, they were present in this unknown place. On another, they were able to witness Earth through a skewed lens. And on even another, they had scattered memories filtered through their creator, in which in grave detail things would replay in full display for them to see. Their own memories were difficult, being an android. So now, they were, quite literally, split into thirds.
Their connection to Earth and ability to simultaneously dwell both in the past, present and future in a sense makes a disssociative blur flow through their mind at all times, hearing and seeing the world that came before them and the dust settling of an existence that never existed. The creator's abrupt ending and inability to finish calibrating his memories into their mind properly and installing the programming correctly led to Mercy having an out-of-alignment mindstate at all points, leading to a haze of multiple lifetimes intertwining and interlacing with their own android programming.
They do not know who they are any longer. They do not know why they were brought into being. They do not know where they are now, or if they were ever here in the first place.
Concept[]
Everything stated about this character is CANON information. It is not mandatory that you make content following this information. They may be depicted in any way regardless of their canon information as long as it follows the UTAU software terms of use.
Mercy was, at points, a dejected and regularly despondent android that showcased a great deal of intelligence and emotional awareness and responsiveness to their creator. Their emotions were more humanlike than their counterparts, sometimes leading to issues. After the accident and the mixing of memories, Mercy is a far-removed and overall disconnected, fractured being with a lack of understanding of where life begins and ends. They are a wanderer in the plane of distortion.
