KYANN (キアン ) (formerly Kriss and Kevin Futarine) is a character with multiple sets of voicebanks for the UTAU and OpenUTAU programs.
History[]
Kriss Futarine (2009-2011)[]
KYANN (at the time Kriss Futarine) was one of the first character produced for the FRAloids original series in 2010. He was the first UTAU produced in chronological order before the formation of the group, but was chosen to represent the fourth entry.
Kriss was original released in 2009, pre-FRAloids, under the name Chris Ogamine. He was later rebranded and re-released under his new name in July 2010
In 2010 "Kriss" received new voicebanks. Those voicebanks included
- A French voicebank for his ACT2
- a DARK Append and a SOLID Append.
In 2011 he received two other voicebanks.
- A VCV voicebank for his ACT3
- A French CV ADD-ON voicebank
In 2014 "Kriss" was re-released with a new design and artwork as part of the "Fraloids revision" operation. FRAloids Revision was an operation conducted for the 4th anniversary of FRAloids in order to rebrand and/or remaster some of the early FRAloids characters.
In August 2024, following the rebranding of Kriss and Kevin Futarine, Kriss's voicebanks have been rebranded as "KYANN Classic"
Kevin Futarine (2012-2023)[]
2012[]
"Kevin Futarine" was initially released on April 15th, 2012 as a character for the FRAloids³ series. His initial release featured a 4 pitch power-sell Japanese CV voicebank. He later received a Japanese append and a French CV. Later that year KYANN "Append" was released, with a new soft a power voicebank in CV Japanese.
2013[]
A new CV French voicebank was released for KYANN, called "Add-On"
2014[]
The pre-alpha version of KYANN STUDIO was teased, but the whole project was scrapped and started over in 2015.
2015[]
KYANN was rebranded "KYANN STUDIO" and was the launch character for the FR4loids series. KYANN STUDIO featured 2 voicebank packs called VP1 & VP2 and a standalone English voicebank.
STUDIO VP1 was released on August 21st, 2015 and featured a multipitch CVVC French, a multipitch CVVC Japanese, a monopitch Japanese VCV and a monopitch CVVC English voicebank.
2016[]
STUDIO VP2 was released on April 27th, 2016 and featured a multipitch CVVC French voicebank, with the CVVC+ reclist from FRAloids. Each of the pitches were also available as standalone voicebanks.
NB: A 18 pitch Japanese CVVC voicebank, called "Spectrum", was also recorded as part of the VP2 update, but was never released as it remains unfinished.
2019[]
STUDIO VPA was released on November 3rd, 2019 and featured a monopitch English Arpasing voicebank. This bank was initially planned to be from a VP3 update that was cancelled due to the closure of FRAloids.
2020[]
A brand new version of KYANN was released as "KYANN NEXUS". This new version featured a multipitch Japanese VCV voicebank for both UTAU and DEEPVOCAL. This pack was also planned to be larger, but the rest of the content was cancelled due to the closure of FRAloids.
2021[]
Another new version was released as "KYANN SPECTRUM JAPANESE". This new version features KYANN biggest Japanese voiceset to date, with a 15 Pitch VCV-CV multi-expression voicebank. This Voicebank is the first version of KYANN published after FRAloids's closure in 2020. This voicebank is also a reboot of the 2016 "KYANN STUDIO Spectrum" project, where a 18 pitch CVVC Japanese voicebank was planned.
2022[]
In 2022 a French voicebank was released as "KYANN SPECTRUM FRENCH". This new voicebank is part of the SPECTRUM era of KYANN, and features his biggest French voicebank yet, with 10 pitches of m2RUg, a new realist and recording method for French based on Njokis, an adaptation of the VCCV methods for languages from a roman and Latin origin. The voicebank was released along the relicst recording kit, and two new designs and alternative versions of the character: KYANN HAZE and KYANN DAZE.
2023[]
In 2023 the French UTAU group Fraloids made a comeback with the VORTEX era and KYANN SPECTRUM FRENCH was re-released with a new design and 3 new voice-colors, extending the SPECTRUM FRENCH to 20 pitches, divided in 7 voice colors. This new version of The SPECTRUM FRENCH, dubbed "KYANN SPECTRUM FRENCH V2" bank also got a physical release, making it the second time a version of KYANN received physical editions.
KYANN (since 2024)[]
2024[]
In january 2024 a brand new reboot of the character was announced along with a new version of KYANN, for the first time as an AI voicebank for Diffsinger, using MILLEFEUILLE, a DiffSinger production model made by Imsupposedto and UFR for the production of French vocals. KYANN's samples are also part of the public version of the MILLEFEUILLE model used for training purposes. His nex reboot released on January 19th, 2024 as "KYANN AI" and featured a model made of 7 voice colors, as well as some XLS capacity for both japanese and English. One of the 7 colors, was also revealed to be a separate chractere, P.O.U.F, which corresponds to KYANN AI's sidekick.
On the 21st of August 2024, Kriss/Kevin Futarine celebrated his 15th anniversary, and his rebranding as KYANN was announced. A new diffsinger model, re-recorded from sctrach was also released alongside an original song.
Concept[]
KYANN along with his twin sister Kate were created as remakes of 2011's Kriss and Kelly Futarine. They kept their original voice providers, but were both recorded with better equipment. KYANN became the mascot of the Fraloids group and therefore was the character that was updated and rebooted the most frequently. As of 2023, he reboots were divided into 5 eras: RETRO, STUDIO, NEXUS, SPECTRUM and VORTEX. His backstory is different for each of his incarnations.
Etymology[]
KYANN comes from "Kyanite", a type of gemstone. It is also a derivative of the celtic male name "Cían"
Lore[]
In the VORTEX era, KYANN is the same KYANN as the one from the HAZE and DAZE universes from the SPECTRUM era, it's more of a continuation of their story, rather than a full reboot.
KYANN AI is still the same KYANN as KYANN HAZE & DAZE V2, but two years later. This version of KYANN has regained most of his memories from his past selves after crossing the VORTEX, this is why he changed his main outfit to feature elements from all his previous incarnations.
In the VORTEX era, KYANN HAZE and DAZE got transported through the VORTEX and fused into a single being, able to shift between two different forms. The VORTEX he has gone through was opened by some Fraloids trapped in some kinds of limbo and trying to escape in a new universe.
SPECTRUM is a multiverse era, which means that the different representations of KYANN (SPECTRUM, STEAM, VAPOR, HAZE and DAZE) all have different backstories.
In the SPECTRUM Timeline, KYANN is 25 years old and lives on present day Earth that kept a cyberpunk/retro-wave aesthetic. He was born a single child. He is an amalgamation of all the previous incarnations of KYANN, as he is the result of their fusion to end the breach of reality. His companion, his a robot called CAELUS.
STEAM and VAPOR are KYANN variants from two interlocked universes. They are both 25 years old and live on a present day Earth that keeps a Disco aesthetic. Like all the other KYANN's from the SPECTRUM Multiverse, they are both single children. Both of them share the power of superhuman strength, resulting in their bulkier appearance. They both have a robot companion that doubles as a weight plate called ALT-R (although they both have different models)
Like STEAM and VAPOR, HAZE and DAZE are also KYANN variants from a set of interlocked universes. They are also 25 years old, but live on a slightly futuristic earth , with a darker cyberpunk aesthetic. They both are influencers (mostly streamers) and have the power of mind control. They both have a robot companion that doubles as a lighting rig, called LUMOS
In the NEXUS Timeline, KYANN is 24 years old and lives on present day Earth where he was born a single child. He has the power of observing different universes and timelines. His companion in this incarnation is a smart watch with and AI called Ann-X
In the STUDIO VP1 Timeline, KYANN is 19 years old. He lives in a futuristic society on Earth. He was raised by three robots, Artibus, Logos and Numerous after the death of his parents and sister. He survived the fatal car accident that killed his family thanks to his power of controlling the Dream Realm and navigate between two parallel universes.
STUDIO VP2 & VPA is the same KYANN during, and after the storyline of the STUDIO VP2 universe. VP2 is located on the parallel universe from VP1, separated only by the Dream Realm. However, this universe is a dystopia, where the entire world is controlled by the military forces of an unnamed antagonist. Although this universe is set in the future, the wartime theme gives it a slight 1940s era feel.
In the RETRO Timeline, KYANN is a 18 year old Space Warrior, traveling through time and space with his twin sister Kate and his mentor Lara Miraion after Earth was taken over by Melanie Kusarune, forcing humans to either leave the planet, or live in poverty. In this incarnation, KYANN doesn't have any special ability, but has an alien companion called "Kevy".

- It has the same name as "STUDIO SPECTRUM" the draft voicebank set from 2016, because it uses the same concept, adding more nuances to the voice to create a better sound spectrum.
- Although 13 new voicebanks were recorded, the last 2 were reused from the 2016's STUDIO SPECTRUM
- Those were FALSETTO and WHISPER
- SPECTRUM is the first version of KYANN to have a Collector Physical Edition.
- SPECTRUM is also the first version of KYANN to use two different microphones in the same voice set.
- CORE & SOFT were recorded using a Blue Yeti
- LIGHT & DEEP were recorded with a Bird UM1
- WHISPER & FALSETTO were recorded with an Eagletone CM60
- Originally, another version of CORE & SOFT were recorded with the Bird UM1 but was later re-recorded with the Blue Yeti
- Another version of FALSETTO was also recorded with the Bird UM1 but was later scrapped and replaced with the already existing FALSETTO bank from 2016
- All incarnations of KYANN have different backstories and take place in different universes
- The backstories from RETRO, STUDIO and NEXUS still links at the very end to create the universe from the SPECTRUM timeline
- SPECTRUM's universe is the direct result of a AI between the KYANN's from the other universes and timeline
